Dog Is My CoPilot: Saving Lives, One Flight at a Time in 2025

Dog Is My CoPilot dog rescue plane.

As we soar into 2025, Dog Is My CoPilot (DIMC) has been busier than ever, flying thousands of miles to save animals in need. From responding to the devastating wildfires in Southern California to expanding our partnerships across the country, we remain deeply committed to giving homeless pets a second chance.

Emergency Response: Helping Animals Affected by LA Wildfires

The wildfires in Southern California have put immense pressure on local shelters, filling them with displaced animals in urgent need of care. Our team has been working with local and national animal welfare organizations to transport adoptable animals to safety, creating much-needed space for those affected by the fires. These rescue missions not only save lives but also bring hope to communities and shelters overwhelmed by the crisis.

Three More Flights This Week!

It’s been another whirlwind week for DIMC! In addition to our California rescue efforts, we partnered with Baldwin Humane and BISSELL Pet Foundation in Alabama to transport over 60 cats and kittens to Colorado. We also completed a rescue flight from New Mexico and flew animals from far West Texas to new homes in Oregon. Every trip means more lives saved and more animals given a fresh start!

Updates on Our Planes

The Big Dog
Our primary aircraft has been flying non-stop, keeping up with the demand for year-round rescue missions.

Tornado-Damaged Aircraft
Our plane that was damaged in a tornado is currently undergoing repairs in Salem, Oregon, and is expected to be back in the air by spring.

Third Aircraft
Another one of our planes is in for maintenance and will return to service in the spring, ensuring that all three planes will be flying nationwide in the coming months to save as many animals as possible.

A Huge Thank You to Our Incredible Partners

We couldn’t do these rescues without the dedication of our hardworking shelter partners and our community of supporters! A huge shoutout to MODERNBEAST, Petco Love, Lulu’s Fund, and BISSELL Pet Foundation for their ongoing support in keeping our planes “wheels up” and saving lives. This past week, two of our amazing pilots, Captain Maresca and Captain Johnson, covered thousands of miles to transport cats and dogs to loving homes in the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. We couldn’t be more grateful to have them as part of our DIMC family!

Big Dreams Lead to Big Impact

One of our recent flights took us to Alpine, Texas, where we partnered with One Tail at a Time West Texas. Under a starlit sky, our teams loaded 28 dogs from shelters in Alpine, Marfa, McCamey, Pecos, and Van Horn—along with three other communities that don’t even have shelters to care for stray animals.

This mission was made possible thanks to the incredible work of One Tail at a Time PDX and Street Dog Hero, who welcomed these pets with open arms. Special thanks to Lulu’s Fund for their generous support in keeping our planes “wheels up” and saving lives!

When Disaster Strikes, Teamwork Saves Lives

We are incredibly grateful for the organizations and individuals who come together during times of crisis. A special thank you to MODERNBEAST for sponsoring our special flight with Los Angeles shelters and rescues. Organized by our friends at BISSELL Pet Foundation, we were honored to be part of this life-changing transport! Thirty-seven dogs that had been waiting for homes before the fires were greeted with love by fosters and adopters ready to give them a fresh start after landing in Idaho.
