Soaring into Summer: A Mid-Year Look at Our Lifesaving Work

This summer, Dog Is My CoPilot took on our largest rescue mission yet and thanks to our generous supporters and partners, it was a massive success.

In partnership with Palm Valley Animal Society in South Texas and Brandywine Valley SPCA in Delaware, we coordinated a special MEGA flight, using two of our aircraft to transport over 100 shelter pets across the country. Upon landing, these lucky dogs and cats went straight to Brandywine’s MEGA Adoption Event, where more than 600 pets found loving homes on the very first day.

None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary support of Petco Love, who not only helped fund this flight but also covered all adoption fees at the event removing every barrier between these animals and their forever families.

Our Flight Coordinator Lynette, flew along on the MEGA mission and had this to share:

“The MEGA flight is a must. I love seeing the positive and excited team from PVAS load the animals they care so deeply about onto the planes. Being able to travel with these lucky passengers and know they are promised the opportunity of a home inspires me to work harder for all our partners and their animals.”

Growing Capacity: Two Aircraft Flying, One on the Mend

Behind every flight is a team working tirelessly to make it happen from our volunteer and full-time pilots to the shelter teams preparing animals for transport.

This summer, we’re proud to be flying two of our aircraft at full capacity, with missions taking place nearly every day across the country. Thanks to the dedication of our pilot team and growing demand from shelter partners, we’re reaching more animals than ever.

But we’re also still recovering from a major setback.

Last year, one of our aircraft sustained significant tornado damage while parked on the ground. Since then, we’ve been working carefully to rebuild and restore it to flying condition. A big project that has required time, resources, and patience.

We’ve made great progress (and we’ll be sharing photos of the rebuild soon!) but this aircraft won’t return to the skies just yet. In the meantime, our two active planes are flying at full strength, ensuring that the animals who need us most still have a way out and a way home.

See the Mission in Action

Come along for the ride with us and watch this short video from one of our recent rescue flights and experience the journey through the eyes (and wagging tails) of our passengers. From shelter loading zones to soft landings and first snuggles, this is what lifesaving looks like.

Every crate holds a story. Every flight holds hope. And every successful mission is a reflection of the teamwork, heart, and compassion behind the scenes.
