Hannah Smith
Rescue Flight Coordinator
Idaho native Hannah’s favorite book as a child was an encyclopedia of dog breeds which she memorized from cover to cover. While this certainly didn’t make her the most popular girl in school, it did foreshadow a lifelong obsession with all things canine. Many years later, during her master’s program at the University of Texas, she responded to an urgent plea to foster a dog that was about to be euthanized. The experience forever changed her values and priorities. Once awakened to the true severity of the animal welfare crisis in her now home state of Texas, she became a dedicated foster and volunteer with Austin Pets Alive! and ultimately found her purpose in rescue transport. In 2025, she officially left a career in design and architecture behind to turn her passion into her profession with Dog is My CoPilot. In her free time, Hannah enjoys agility training with her only foster fail to date (a Pit Bull mix named Josie), hiking, and indulging in a Netflix binge with her husband. She still has that encyclopedia, by the way, but these days “Rescue” is unequivocally her favorite breed!
