Amy has been a lifelong advocate for shelter animals. Her journey in animal rescue began more than 30 years ago, when she moved out on her own and got her first “real” job. Having never been allowed to have a dog growing up, one of the first things Amy did was visit her local animal shelter and rescue a mutt of her own. That dog, which she named Bailey, changed her life and she has had a shelter dog in her home ever since. Amy now lives in Wilmington, North Carolina, with her husband, two daughters and two dogs named Izzy and Cooper.

For more than four years, Amy has worked professionally in the animal welfare sector, collaborating with shelters and rescue organizations throughout the Southeast. Through her work coordinating air and ground animal transports, she has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of shelter overcrowding and the heartbreaking reality that, in many communities, healthy and deserving animals face euthanasia simply because shelters run out of space.

It was shortly after beginning her career in animal rescue that Amy discovered just how deeply she cared about helping animals in need. She found her passion in transport, where she could help connect smaller, rural shelters in the south with rescue organizations in the northeast where animals were given a chance to find safe, loving forever homes.
